Taal volcano eruption in southern Philippines

MANILA, 13 Jan. 2020 – One of the most active volcanos located at the island of Luzon, about 60 kilometers in southern of Manila had spewed ash up to 14 kilometers into air last Sunday.

The Taal volcano is considered among the world’s most dangerous following to the high number of populations staying in its vicinity besides of its tourism hotspots.

Philippine authorities urged almost half millions of people nearby to evacuate as the volcano can erupt in any time.

As of today, more than 16,400 evacuees are placed in temporary evacuation centers and there is anticipation the number will keep increasing.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has raised the alert level to four that give an indication of eruption could gush out in coming hours or days.

The fifth alert level is the highest, indicating that eruption is taking place.

Currently, Islamic Relief is monitoring the situation closely and exploring an emergency response.

Idlib civilian displacement increased

IDLIB, 10 Jan. 2020 – More than 312,000 people have fled from southern province of Idlib to the north meanwhile thousands of others in Saraqab did the same as a result of anticipation that hostilities will attack their vicinity.

Tens of thousands more civilians have moved to the northern Aleppo as in Afrin and A’zaz seeking protection and access to basic needs.

The security is volatile where bombing had caused destruction of public infrastructure such as school and IDP camp.

The domestic refugees are in urgent needs of humanitarian aids particularly shelter, medicine, food, non-food items and winterisation assistance.

Puerto Rico struck by 6.4 magnitud earthquake

PUERTO RICO, 7 Jan. 2020 – A deadly 6.4 magnitude earthquake has shaken Puerto Rico resulting in at least one death and eight others are injured.

346 people have been rendered homeless in the destructive tremor that has caused collapsed homes and buildings, damaged roads, widespread power outages and 300,000 households remain with no water supply since last Tuesday.

The Governor of Puerto Rico has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard that would result in accompanying aid.

67 killed meanwhile 500,000 people heavily affected

JAKARTA, 7 Jan. 2020 – The death toll has risen to 67 meanwhile more than 500,000 people are reported to be heavily affected due to landslide and flash flood in Bogor and Lebak district.

Thousands of homes are waterlogged meanwhile hundreds were swept away by the strong current.

The vicinity cities of Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, Tangerang, South Tangerang and Bandung Barat in West Java province were also affected.

Twelve district governments outside Jakarta have declared emergency status until 16 January.

The number of evacuees has been reduced to 15,000 people since the floodwater starts to recede.

24 people and almost 500 millions animals killed

AUSTRALIA, 6 Jan. 2020 – Twenty four people and almost 500 million animals have died, seven people are missing, meanwhile, 2,000 homes were destroyed in the catastrophic bushfire that engulfed Australia since the last few months.

According to Reuters, estimated about 67,000 people were forced to displace to a safer area in Victoria.

More than six million hectares of land in Victoria and New South Wales have been ripped by the catastrophic fire, as a result of an extreme heatwave and strong wind in this season.

Syrian Families in Idleb Fleeing Towards the North Closer to the Turkish Border

IDLEB, 24 Dec. 2019– An estimated 132,723 people were forced to flee their homes between 11 and 22 December and tens of thousands have fled since 16th December 2019.

The latest escalation is a result of intense aerial raids on civil infrastructures which at least 84 people have been killed and 173 injured.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has warned that another half a million people could be displaced in the coming weeks.

Islamic Relief Syria has identified the priority needs of affected IDPs as: shelter items, food, health services, nutrition and protection.
