5.8 magnitude Earthquake Struck Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, 26 Sept. 2019– A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck some parts of Pakistan earlier today especially at Mirpur district and the tremors have been felt in various cities including Jatla, Mangla and the villages of Manda and Afzalpur.

Latest reports indicated 30 fatalities with 450 injured and these figures are likely to be increased.

The Government of Pakistan declared emergency in all the hospitals within Mirpur district, while several main roads in Mirpur district suffered major damage, as well as three major bridges.

The authorities are currently in Mirpur focusing on search and rescue operations, assessing the damage and providing life-saving support.

200 tents, 800 blankets, 200 kitchen sets, 100 medical kits and 50,000 bottles of water has been dispatched to the affected area.

Islamic Relief (IR) Pakistan immediately deployed a three members Emergency Response Team (ERT) to Mirpur District to conduct an assessment.
