Displacement from Syria to Iraq, Increase

Syria, 29 Oct. 2019– A total of 1,200 people was crossed the Iraqi border last 23 October, resulting in an increase of 8,430 people in the last 10 days.

The need for shelter, food, water and healthcare was reported to increase among travel groups.

Due to the high cost factor to cross the border some refugees are reported to remain in official camps where critical humanitarian assistance is needed.

The refugees were transported to Bardarash camp by bus. At the moment, the number of refugees in the camp reached 1,662 families, while the camp had a capacity of 3,000 families and was expected to increase.

Islamic Relief in Iraq is ready to help in the provision of hygiene kits and food packages to refugees there.

Syrian Displacement Escalate Due to the Hostilities

BEIRUT, 23 Oct. 2019– Since military operations in northeast Syria began, around 160,000 civilians have been displaced.

On October 13, about 5,000 people were reported to move from the city of Ein Issa to the Ar-Raqqa area. Several hundred families were also reported to have left Menbij, Aleppo Governorate due to the hostilities.

Refugees began entering Iraq on October 13 via Duhuk, and according to the Joint Crisis Coordination Center (JCC) that number will increase from 30,000 to 250,000, refugees said.

UNHCR Iraq initially estimated around 50,000 people could across into Iraq. The main assistants needed for this camp are children’s diapers and milk powder, hygiene kits, meat and NFI (non-food items).

Islamic Relief in Iraq has visited Bardarash camp in Dhouk where about 4000 individuals have been deployed there and they currently monitoring the needs of the camp.

Fuel Crisis in Yemen Affect Food Supply and Medical Assistance

Yemen, 18 Oct. 2019– Yemen is currently experiencing a fuel crisis and has led to rising food prices and a growing health crisis.

Delivery of food and medical supplies took longer, while hospital and water filtration systems need fuel to operate.

Islamic Relief Yemen reported that the operation was going well but if the situation persists, it could have a significant impact on their program, and they will continue to monitor the situation there.

An aftershock hits Mirpur

MIRPUR, 11 Oct. 2019– A subsequent earthquake struck Mirpur on 6 October, causing one death while two others were severely injured by a collapsed building.

Reports from Islamic Relief (IR) volunteers say that five homes were destroyed in Chattar Pair, Jatalan and Jari Kass.

Emergency Response Team (ERT) from IR Pakistan was deployed to Mirpur and affected areas to carry out the Rapid Needs Assessment (RNA).

The most needed items include hygiene kits (including menstrual hygiene kits), winter kits and kitchen appliances.

Reconstruct the house and drinking water sources urgently needed besides psychosocial support or counselling to the affected residents.

Earthquake in Pakistan, Death Rate Increasing

MIRPUR, 30 Sept. 2019 – 39 people were killed while 746 were injured in the aftermath of a 4.4 magnitude earthquake that hit Mirpur District on September 26.

According to a report by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), about 1,691 homes were destroyed while 120 livestock were killed and 230 injured in addition to a 500-foot crack in the country’s main road.

The disasters also affected the water infrastructure, causing local residents to use contaminated water for daily use.

This condition is feared to cause an outbreak of waterborne or dengue disease.

Based on the assessment conducted by Islamic Relief (IR) Pakistan, the main needs of the locals at this time are drinking water supply, medical assistance, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).

5.8 magnitude Earthquake Struck Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, 26 Sept. 2019– A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck some parts of Pakistan earlier today especially at Mirpur district and the tremors have been felt in various cities including Jatla, Mangla and the villages of Manda and Afzalpur.

Latest reports indicated 30 fatalities with 450 injured and these figures are likely to be increased.

The Government of Pakistan declared emergency in all the hospitals within Mirpur district, while several main roads in Mirpur district suffered major damage, as well as three major bridges.

The authorities are currently in Mirpur focusing on search and rescue operations, assessing the damage and providing life-saving support.

200 tents, 800 blankets, 200 kitchen sets, 100 medical kits and 50,000 bottles of water has been dispatched to the affected area.

Islamic Relief (IR) Pakistan immediately deployed a three members Emergency Response Team (ERT) to Mirpur District to conduct an assessment.
