Sacrifice Through Qurbani

It has long become a common situation for all Muslims to feel happy when Raya celebration is just around the corner. One month after Muslims have finished fulfilling the third pillar of Islam, which is fasting in the month of Ramadan, Eid Fitr is a symbolic event to celebrate the success of fasting in the holy month in search of His blessings.

About two months later, the Muslims will once again commemorate a big celebration generally known as Eid Adha in Zulhijjah. The event is celebrated once the Hajj rite is done. Performing Hajj is also the last pillar of Islam.

Not only that, Eid Adha is a special occasion which dates back to the chronicle of Prophet Ibrahim in fulfilling the initial order by Allah SWT that also includes the patience of his son, Prophet Ismail to follow the command of Him as mentioned in As-Saffat, verse 102:

And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, “O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think.” He said, “O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast.”

Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM) as an international humanitarian organisation feels obligated to celebrate Eid Adha through #SalamQurbani project that is hosted annually. In general, #SalamQurbani is a seasonal project carried out every year as a way to enable those people whose intention is to make donation towards the less fortunate.

To put things in perspective, #SalamQurbani consists of several essential key takeaways to look into:

– To share joy and celebrate the holy occasion with the beneficiaries

– To foster a closer relationship between IRM and the beneficiaries

– To unite multiple ethnicities through interreligious understanding

– To promote the values of Ihsan and Rahmah as practiced by Islamic Relief members all around the world

The importance of celebrating #SalamQurbani is not just about offering help for the beneficiaries. The idea behind this project is to fulfill a social responsibility in terms of ritual needs that reflect the level of faith that Muslim holds.

Apart from fulfilling the ritual need, if we probe into the matter closely, there exists a big number of human population who never gets the chance or close to no chance of savouring on meats as their dish of the day. Such situation makes IRM feels obligated to offer this social responsibility to help ease their burden.

Through #SalamQurbani project, it is no doubt that this occasion serves a purpose to help all donours purify their soul by sacrificing animals and thus promote a humble sense in them to always be grateful with the favours granted by Allah SWT. Indirectly, #SalamQurbani can promote a sense of togetherness and bridge the gap between the rich and the poor to celebrate Eid Adha.

As in line with the goal of organisation, IRM wants to retain its status as an independent organisation striving towards the vision to envisage a caring world where communities are empowered, social obligations are fulfilled and respond as one to the suffering of others.
