The Humanitarian Situation in Syria Continues to Deteriorate

Idlib, 11 Feb. 2020 – Four million people in Idlib and Aleppo governorates continues to languish due to the ongoing violence that caused the death of more than 180 people including 60 children and 27 women.

It is reported that 689,098 people have fled from their homes to urban centres and IDP camps in northwest Idlib meanwhile tens of thousands of others have moved to areas in northern Aleppo escaping hostilities.

80 percent of the figures are among women and children.

At least 53 health facilities suspended their services due to insecurity.

Displacement during winter where the temperature is below zero degrees these days is further exacerbating.

Currently, those affected are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance particularly shelter, food, health, non-food and winterization.

Share The Joy Raikan Kegembiraan Dengan Berkongsi Rezeki

KAJANG, 5 Feb. 2020 – Program Share the Joy anjuran Islamic Relief Malaysia raikan kegembiraan dengan berkongsi rezeki bersama penghuni pusat jagaan Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Kajang (PKIK), Selangor sempena sambutan Tahun Baru Cina.

 

Fokus bantuan merangkumi “display chiller”, barangan mandian, kit kebersihan dan barangan keperluan dapur seperti bawang, kentang, kekacang, jem, susu pekat serta pelbagai lagi.

 

Ini bukan kali pertama Islamic Relief Malaysia menyantuni penghuni PKIK, hubungan baik ini telah mula terjalin sejak 10 tahun yang lalu.

 

Menurut Koordinator Program PKIK, Chuah Swan Im, Islamic Relief Malaysia merupakan NGO Islam pertama yang hadir menyantuni penghuni di pusat tersebut.

 

“Program Share the Joy merupakan acara tahunan yang dijalankan selari dengan misi kemanusiaan Islamic Relief Malaysia dalam menyantuni penerima manfaat tanpa mengira perbezaan bangsa, agama dan warna kulit.

 

“Ia juga salah satu cara dalam memastikan amanah dan tanggungjawab sosial yang digalas dapat disalurkan kepada penerima manfaat secara menyeluruh agar mereka terus disantuni dan mendapat perhatian masyarakat sekeliling,” kata Zairulshahfuddin Zainal Abidin, Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Islamic Relief Malaysia.

 

Pendekatan ini turut dilihat sejajar dengan Matlamat Pembangunan Mampan 2030 (SDG 2030) yang mahu memastikan tiada lapisan masyarakat merasa terpinggir.

 

Meskipun PKIK berada di kawasan rumah kedai, namun ia lengkap dengan pelbagai kemudahan serta alat bantu mengajar yang bagus. Pusat ini telah berjaya menabur bakti kepada kanak-kanak istimewa juga keluarga mereka yang datang dari kalangan masyarakat Cina, India dan Melayu sejak 25 tahun lalu.

 

“Objektif utama kami dalam mendidik anak-anak di sini adalah untuk memastikan bahawa mereka dapat belajar berdikari serta merasai nikmat hidup seperti anak normal yang lain.

 

“Terima kasih kerana sedar kewujudan kami di sini. Terima kasih atas sumbangan yang diberikan kerana kami sangat-sangat memerlukannya. Teruskanlah kerja-kerja kebajikan yang kamu semua jalankan, saya selalu percaya kerja kebajikan mampu memberi kebahagian kepada diri kita,” kata Chuah Swan Im, Koordinator Program PKIK.

 

Diharapkan platform sebegini dapat terus memberi impak positif kepada semua pihak dalam konteks mewujudkan suasana harmoni dikalangan masyarakat majmuk yang merangkumi pelbagai kaum.

Syrian People In Need Of Urgent Aid

IDLIB, 3 Feb. 2020 – More than 586,000 people fled to urban centres and IDP camps in northwest Idleb since 1st December escaping hostilities.

Two hundred air strikes in the last three days has caused at least 14 deaths among the civilians.

The daily shelling has affected civilian infrastructures including IDP camps, schools, health centres and hospitals.

It is reported that sixteen healthcare were relocated and 10 more have to be closed.

Fifteen healthcare supported by Islamic Relief have been attacked in the past two months.

The destruction of infrastructure aggravated the pressing situation as devaluation of Syrian Pound is driving up prices.

Islamic Relief on the ground is currently providing humanitarian assistance to the affected people.

Deadly earthquake struck Turkey

TURKEY, 25 Jan. 2020 – Twenty-two people have died meanwhile 1,032 people injured in 6.8 Richter scale earthquake that has shaken Elazig, eastern Turkey.

The centralised tremblor in Sivrice has caused few buildings to collapse and affected almost 20 thousand civilians.

According to Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) , it is reported that more than 200 aftershocks following to the first earthquake.

The tremor can be felt by neighbourhood countries such as Syria, Lubnan and Iran.

Pakistan deadly winter death toll rises to 92

PAKISTAN, 15 Jan. 2020 – The death toll in Quetta and Azad Kashmir, Pakistan has risen to 92 mainly due to collapsing mud houses.

According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), figures for damaged homes currently stand at 489 for both partially and fully damaged.

Avalanches has blocked the seven important access roads in Azad Kashmir and made the rescue and relief efforts intensified.

Islamic Relief has mobilised the Disaster Response Teams (DRT) and initiated preparations with local vendors for food supplies.

The urgent humanitarian aids include temporary shelters, non-food items, safe drinking water, hygiene kits, cash for work and psychosocial support.

Death toll at 77 in Pakistan deadly weather

PAKISTAN, 14 Jan. 2020 – Extreme winter weather in Pakistan has caused 15 death in Quetta and at least 62 death in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) over the last two days.

It has been reported that 11 are injured, many people are missing, and more than 100 homes have been damaged due to avalanches and landslides.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Kalat, Quetta and Ziarat has dropped to minus 10, 11 and 13 degrees Celsius respectively.

The Provisional Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has declared emergency within northern of Balochistan.

The authorities are currently supplying humanitarian assistance to the affected people particularly food, blankets and medicines.

Islamic Relief and partners on the ground in Balochistan are conducting a Rapid Needs Assessment and monitoring the ongoing situation closely for an emergency response.
