90 People Died by Heavy Monsoon Rain in Pakistan

PAKISTAN, 27 August 2020 – Ninety people have died, and more than 1,080 houses were destroyed in Pakistan due to heavy monsoon rains since last July.

Five bridges and 10 roads across the country have been partially damaged or destroyed.

The floods have caused landslides across Pakistan including Javed Hillview, Sindh which damaged 72 apartments and 120 shops meanwhile three miners died in a coal mine in Chakwai district, Punjab.

Sindh and Karachi were reported being the worst affected areas forcing 1,545 residents to be evacuated.

The government is focusing on evacuating people in Karachi because some of the streets and homes in that area were flooded with the sewage water.

Electricity supply in some areas in Karachi was also temporarily suspended for security purposes.

Flash Floods Kill At Least 86 in Afghanistan

AFGHANISTAN, 27th August 2020 At least 86 people were killed while 106  injured in nine provinces in Afghanistan caused by torrential rains and flash flood.

The death toll may continue to rise as many more affected residents have yet to be found.

The worst affected area is Parwan province, bordering Kabul.

According to official said, more than 1,500 houses and dozens of vehicles have been destroyed.

Currently, 3,500 families need urgent humanitarian assistance.

The urgent needs were identified as food, non-food items (NFI), and shelter.

Islamic Relief Afghanistan proposes an emergency response in Parwan by preparing 629 food packs consisting of 30 kilograms of wheat, five kilograms of beans, rice, oil, and one kilogram of salt.

Gaza Need Urgent Humanitarian Assistance

GAZA, 27 August 2020 – The authorities in Gaza have announced a curfew due to four positive cases of coronavirus infection identified outside the quarantine center to prevent the spread of the infectious pandemic.

All business premises, including schools and mosques, were closed until further notice.

The main border crossing in Gaza Strips also remains closed and it is affected good pass to the city.

This situation only makes economic growth in Gaza become decline as well as give more pressure to the Palestinians to have daily necessities.

Gaza only has four hours of electricity supply per day.

While the conflict between Gaza and Israel seems to be quiet, it is reported that many balloons have been released at the Gaza border which may show that the airstrikes will attack soon.

Earlier, Israel had invaded the Gaza Strip for 10 consecutive nights.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least two protesters were injured.

Islamic Relief in Gaza currently monitor the situation as well as being prepared if an emergency happens.

Angka Korban dan Cedera di Beirut Terus Meningkat

BEIRUT, 10 Ogos 2020 – Lebih 200 terkorban manakala 6,000 lagi dianggarkan cedera dalam insiden letupan di Beirut.

Sebanyak 12 pusat rawatan kesihatan musnah, tiga hospital tidak dapat beroperasi dan 120 buah sekolah yang menempatkan 55,000 kanak-kanak Lubnan serta pelarian juga mengalami pelbagai kerosakan.

Selain itu, jumlah catatan kes positif koronavirus (COVID-19) turut dilaporkan meningkat kepada 295 kes baharu dalam tempoh sehari. Angka ini dikatakan paling tinggi sejak pandemik mula menular di Lubnan.

Menurut Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB), Lubnan bakal berdepan masalah kekurangan bekalan makanan selama lebih dua minggu berikutan 120,000 tan metrik stok makanan telah musnah dalam tragedi lalu.

Insiden letupan dan kemusnahan yang berlaku mengakibatkan ribuan penunjuk perasaan membanjiri jalan raya di Beirut selama tiga hari berturut-turut bermula Sabtu lalu.

Keadaan ini memaksa pasukan keselamatan menembak gas pemedih mata untuk meleraikan perhimpunan serta mengelakkan sebarang kecedaran berlaku.

Perdana Menteri Lubnan, Hassan Diab terpaksa mengundur diri dan mengumumkan perletakan jawatannya. Beberapa hari lalu, Menteri Informasi dan Menteri Alam Sekitar Lubnan turut melepaskan jawatan mereka atas desakan rakyat.

Islamic Relief Lubnan giat menyalurkan bantuan makanan dan melaksanakan kerja-kerja pembersihan di kawasan terjejas.

Niger Floods, 4,505 Need Urgent Aid

NIGER, 8 August 2020 – At least 4,505 people in Dosso and Tillabery need urgent humanitarian assistance as Niger was affected by flash flooding since 2nd August.

Meanwhile, 420 houses have been reportedly collapsed and 530 hectares of cropland have been destroyed.

The urgent needs were identified as food, non-food items (NFI), and health kits to prevent the affected people from malaria and coronavirus.

Though water levels are now receding, further rain is expected over the coming weeks into September.

Islamic Relief Niger is currently working closely with local authorities and other humanitarian partners to help those affected.

Beirut Explosion Death Toll Rises

BEIRUT, 7 August 2020 – The death toll of an explosion in Beirut has risen to 154 people including children while more than 5,000 people were injured.

According to the Minister of Public Health, 120 critical patients who were injured by shattered glass need immediate surgeries.

More than 1.5 million people have been affected in the capital, according to initial reports while 300,000 people lost their homes and are displaced including 80,000 children, most of whom are traumatized and in shock.

Islamic Relief Lebanon has already started its response by clearing debris in affected streets and public areas 48 hours after the explosion.

Besides that, drinking water and food packs were also distributed to the patients and their families as well as medical staffs in hospitals.

Islamic Relief Lebanon will continue to help those affected people by cooperating with government authorities, United Nation (UN) agencies and local organisations.
