INTRODUCTION

Sada’a Governorate is amongst the most affected Governorate in Yemen due to cholera and water borne diseases. The number of people in need of water has now reached 16 million people (previously 14.5 million). Based on the rapid needs assessment, people in the targeted areas are drinking water from unprotected water sources and there is an increase in water borne diseases, cholera and diarrhea. Assessments also shows that 55% households do not have access to safe drinking water and 5 water sources is non-functional and it notes as one of the factors which limited the efforts to control the current cholera outbreak and other water diseases.

OBJECTIVE

Islamic Relief Malaysia aims to prevent cholera spreading to communities (2,171 households =15,200 individuals) due to unsafe water by rehabilitate two non-functional water source at Majz and Sahar District, Sada’a Governorate, Yemen and to improved hygiene practices in the target area.
