Many people dream of the beauty of white, soft and fluffy snow, but yet there are those who are suffering from the cold harsh winter.
As Ramadan approaches, thousands of families affected by humanitarian crises at home and abroad face growing concerns about securing food for suhoor and iftar. For them, Ramadan is not only a month of worship, but also a month filled with hardship, as they observe the fast amid severe shortages and uncertainty about how to survive each day.
In Sudan, a mother named Samake shared how the Ramadan food pack assistance she received previously brought great relief to her family. Her children were excited to see the aid they received, and for the first time, they were able to enjoy their meals without having to share small portions as they usually did. The assistance was not just food, but a sense of relief, as she no longer had to worry about what her family would eat the next day.
The situation in Gaza, Palestine, is even more challenging. Umm Muhammad described the reality of breaking fast in darkness without electricity, where a single date or a can of food has to be shared among five or six family members. Having lost almost everything due to prolonged conflict, the food assistance they receive becomes a great blessing and a source of hope to continue surviving.
Based on these urgent needs, Islamic Relief Malaysia (IR Malaysia) has launched the MySedekah Ramadan Initiative in conjunction with 1 Rejab 1447H. The initiative runs from 22 December 2025 to 20 March 2026, with a fundraising target of RM2.5 million.
The initiative aims to support 32,000 beneficiaries, including orphans, persons with disabilities (PWD), the elderly, and low-income families in Palestine (Gaza), Sudan, and Malaysia.
Assistance will be provided in the form of food packs, cash vouchers, or hot meals to ensure that suhoor and iftar needs are met throughout the month of Ramadan. Each food pack contains essential food items or staple goods based on local needs, such as rice, flour, grains, legumes, canned meat, cooking oil, sugar, tea, and dates.
As part of the MySedekah Campaign, MySedekah Ramadan supports the overall fundraising target of RM3.5 million for various humanitarian aid projects by Islamic Relief Malaysia both locally and internationally, ensuring that assistance can continue not only during Ramadan, but throughout the year.
