Indonesia masih menghadapi cabaran terhadap kekurangan zat makanan kanak-kanak. Sekitar 27.5% atau 6.5 juta kanak-kanak di bawah lima tahun tinggal di bawah pendarahan (Kementerian Kesihatan di Jawapos.com, Julai 2017). Sesetengah kanak-kanak yang menderita menderita penyakit malnutrisi yang teruk dengan jangkitan penyakit, sementara sesetengah yang lain mengalami kekurangan zat dan gizi. Baru-baru ini, sehingga 19 Januari 2018, terdapat 68 kanak-kanak yang mati akibat kekurangan gizi yang teruk dengan penyakit campak di Asmat, Papua.

Pirgachha Upazila under Rangpur districtlies in the north-west part of Bangladesh. Rangpur is one of the highest poverty districts of Bangladesh. There are limited income source and lack of employment opportunity, limitation of livelihood options in agriculture, lack of women involvement in economic activity, wage and gender discrimination, and lack of flexible and interest-free microfinance.
In Bangladesh, half of 160 million civilians live in extreme poverty. Islamic Relief has provided help to some of them particularly emergency relief, micro finance, agriculture and education. This project targeted 100 extreme poor households and100 women to step out from poverty.
Targeted households are united through Self-Help Group (SHG) and engaged in livelihood development and Income Generating Activities (IGA) multiplication and diversification. The project is addressing needs of the most vulnerable families through diversified approach such as exploration and mobilization of their traditional skills, knowledge, motivation, promoting sustainable access to community-led flexible and interest-free financial services.
The project has created diversified sustainable livelihood options, economic opportunities, food and nutritional security, women empowerment and managed to reduce gender discrimination. The households are more aware about their rights and entitlements as well as securing the opportunity in decision making. Handicap International has provided technical support with specific training and provide appropriate assistive device for the disable Community-led Poverty Alleviation Approach for the Extreme Poor (CLAP) beneficiaries and their family members.Targeted households managed to have sustainable and diversified income which significantly improved their motivation, knowledge, skill and expertise (household income and asset base will increase by 50% each from baseline status by the end of the project period).
IRM mengakui potensi menyediakan bantuan makanan kepada pelajar miskin di bandar yang mungkin telah mengalami keretakan, terutama mereka yang tinggal di projek perumahan kos rendah melalui Program Makan Sekolah 2019. Inisiatif ini akan menyediakan makanan semasa waktu persekolahan untuk sekurang-kurangnya 135 pelajar yang mempunyai telah dipilih berdasarkan latar belakang keluarga mereka.
