WITHOUT proper protection, extreme cold winter can be a critical threat to those in need.
This year, Islamic Relief Malaysia continues its Winter Appeal campaign to support affected communities, especially in areas like Northern Gaza, Khan Younis, and Rafah in Palestine, as well as Akkar, El Hermel, El Minieh-Dennie, Baalbek, Zahle, Baabda, Bekaa, Rachaya, Jezzine, and Hasbaya in Lebanon.
We aim to raise RM200,000 from 1 November to 31 December 2024.
The assistance provided will include blankets, winter clothing and essentials, food packs, and cash asistance.
Priority will be given to single mothers, orphans, the elderly, people with disabilities, chronic patients, low-income families, internally displaced persons (IDPs), pregnant and nursing mothers, households with no income, and large families with many dependents.
Extreme cold weather has serious health consequences, including dry and cracked skin, hypothermia, frostbite, burns, heart attacks, and more.
People in Gaza Face Winter Without Basic Essentials
One year after the genocide in Gaza, violence shows no signs of stopping.
Around 1.9 million people have been forcibly displaced internally many times and struggling with severe deprivation.
The approaching winter further threatens their lives.
“We don’t know where to go anymore.
“Every place is destroyed. It breaks my heart to see my children facing winter with just a single thin garment each. If we don’t die from bombings, we may die from hunger and the cold.”
Lebanon on the Brink of Collapse
The situation in Lebanon grows increasingly critical.
Hundreds of thousands are now displaced, and hospitals are overwhelmed with child patients.
People are forced to live on the streets in crowded, unsanitary conditions in their own country.
“When the attacks happened, we ran with nothing but the clothes on our backs.
“Although temporary shelters are provided, they are not enough for everyone affected. We lack not only money and shelter, but basic necessities like clean water, food, and medicine are also difficult to find.”
