Many people dream of the beauty of white, soft and fluffy snow, but yet there are those who are suffering from the cold harsh winter.
Extreme cold weather in the winter season can be deadly, especially for vulnerable people who are suffering from poverty and being refugees.
Their survival becomes very challenging because they don’t have proper shelter, winter clothes, food, and even heaters to keep them warm.
The hardships of life force them to choose between buying food or fuel, which are equally important to save their lives from death.
Extreme cold weather can give a big impact on health during the winter season including dry and flaky skin, hypothermia, frostbite or burns, and heart attack.
Islamic Relief’s Response
The Winter Appeal Campaign is an annual project conducted by Islamic Relief to alleviate the suffering of affected communities such as internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees in neighbouring countries, and orphans in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Asia.
Therefore, to support this effort, Islamic Relief Malaysia has specifically launched the Winter Appeal campaign from 1 November to 31 December 2022 with a target of RM250,000.
This campaign will benefit those affected by the harsh winter in Lebanon which includes the local people, Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Baalbek El Hermel, Bekaa, Akkar, and Nabatiyeh, Lebanon.
The people we support will get food packs, petrol, fuel, blankets, mattresses, and winter clothes through cash, vouchers, and in-kind assistance to brave the winter.
There are 3 donation packages offered through this Winter Appeal campaign which are “Stay Safe With Love” worth RM250, ‘Stay Calm With Love’ worth RM150, and ‘Stay Warm With Love’ worth RM50.
The criteria for aid recipients include single mothers, orphans, the elderly, people with disabilities (OKU), low-income groups, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers as well as families affected by the impact of COVID-19, internally displaced persons (IDPs), households with no income and has a large number of dependents.
Lebanon needs attention and help
Lebanon is facing an increasingly critical financial crisis since an economic downturn began to hit the country in 2019.
The Lebanese currency plummeted on the market. The World Bank described the financial crisis in Lebanon as one of the worst crises since the 19th century.
The United Nations (UN) estimates that four out of five Lebanese live below the poverty line.
Because of that, the basic food supply such as bread is currently insufficient, while the price has increased highly. The unemployment rate in Lebanon has also risen.
The Lebanese themselves are facing big challenge to survive, let alone the Syrian and Palestinian refugees who have taken refuge in that country. It is a matter of survival.
Let’s donate to Islamic Relief Malaysia’s Winter Appeal campaign to help families survive this winter.
Nothing is impossible if we are united. Together we can save their lives.
Keep them warm & alive.
