How\u00a0we are responding to the global refugee crisis<\/span><\/h2>\n

Since Islamic Relief first formed more than 30 years ago we have been on the frontline of responding to the needs of forced migrants around the world.<\/p>\n

Today the world has reached crisis point as the number of refugees exceeds 20 million \u2013 the highest figure for more than two decades.<\/p>\n

With forced migration at an unprecedented scale our work on the ground supporting refugees around the world is more vital than ever\u00a0\u2013 not only to meet the needs of the refugees themselves but also to counter the negativity and hostile attitudes that they too often engender.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

The global refugee crisis<\/strong><\/p>\n

The United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that by the end of 2015 around 65.3 million people around the world had been forced to leave their homes because of persecution, conflict, violence or human rights violations.<\/p>\n

To address this crisis a UN Summit<\/a> was held in New York last year<\/a>, bringing world leaders together around one plan.<\/p>\n

The resulting New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants<\/a> contains bold commitments to address current issues and to prepare for future challenges. They include:<\/p>\n
