{"id":1576,"date":"2016-08-25T01:17:58","date_gmt":"2016-08-24T17:17:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/islamic-relief.org.my\/sandbox_www\/?p=1576"},"modified":"2017-04-22T07:11:19","modified_gmt":"2017-04-21T23:11:19","slug":"a-voice-inside-me-was-saying-come-on-you-can-do-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/islamic-relief.org.my\/sandbox_www\/a-voice-inside-me-was-saying-come-on-you-can-do-it\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cA voice inside me was saying: \u2018Come on, you can do it!&#8217;\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>For World Humanitarian Day we\u2019re paying tribute to our humanitarian heroes in the field.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As a child welfare officer Sambou Camara helps vulnerable orphans in Mali, providing financial and psychological support.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In his previous role as a social assistant he was tasked with going door-to-door, making sure each orphan in the sponsorship programme was visited and assessed:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cI have to admit that this work requires a lot of effort. From 7am to 6pm we had to drive motorbikes in the traffic, among cars, in places where driving was not easy or possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cSometimes we had to travel long distances to reach these orphans. One day I had worked hard and was reaching my limit. I was so tired that I wanted to go back home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWhen I considered the distance I had to travel (another 15km) to reach the next orphan I paused for a moment. However, a voice inside me was saying: \u201cCome on Sambou, you can do it! You have to make this extra effort!\u201d And I knew it was true.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cI knew I was contributing to the wellbeing of this child. I knew I was contributing to building his future. So I was motivated to move forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThis is an everyday battle and one which gives me considerable satisfaction, ensuring people receive the support they need.
