{"id":1539,"date":"2016-09-22T12:05:04","date_gmt":"2016-09-22T04:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/islamic-relief.org.my\/sandbox_www\/?p=1539"},"modified":"2017-04-21T22:04:16","modified_gmt":"2017-04-21T14:04:16","slug":"what-is-life-like-for-aid-workers-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/islamic-relief.org.my\/sandbox_www\/what-is-life-like-for-aid-workers-in-syria\/","title":{"rendered":"What is life like for aid workers in Syria?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>An Islamic Relief worker describes the difficulties on the ground.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After an air strike hit a convoy of relief trucks near Aleppo this week Islamic Relief\u2019s field coordinator, Yousef Abdollah, has been speaking with the BBC\u2019s World Service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The only person speaking from Syria, Abdollah joined other NGOs for a panel discussion on the programme BBC World Have Your Say.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He spoke about what it is like to be an aid worker within Syria and the challenges around planning, access and safety. He also spoke about working with local authorities on the ground.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Describing the situation for civilians in Aleppo, he said: \u201cThere are almost 400,000 civilians stuck inside the city without any basic infrastructure \u2013 no food, no electricity, no water, no communication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThere is frustration amongst the civilians due to aid being unable to be delivered.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You can listen to the programme here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mejs-offscreen\" style=\"color: #000000;\">Audio Player<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.islamic-relief.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/WorldHaveYourSay-20160920.mp3?_=1\">Download File<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Following the incident on Monday, which killed at least one aid worker and around 20 civilians, the United Nations suspended aid convoys across Syria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Just a day later a second incident saw Islamic Relief\u2019s partner the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations (UOSSM) hit, with five medical workers killed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Islamic Relief\u2019s planned shipment of food parcels in Aleppo has been suspended and our team in Syria has increased security precautions following the end of the ceasefire.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Islamic Relief worker describes the difficulties on the ground.
