{"id":1437,"date":"2016-11-17T16:01:13","date_gmt":"2016-11-17T08:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/islamic-relief.org.my\/sandbox_www\/?p=1437"},"modified":"2017-04-21T16:32:02","modified_gmt":"2017-04-21T08:32:02","slug":"the-gift-of-a-smile-for-children-in-jordan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/islamic-relief.org.my\/sandbox_www\/the-gift-of-a-smile-for-children-in-jordan\/","title":{"rendered":"The gift of a smile for children in Jordan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>A healthcare programme has provided under-10s with life-changing cleft palate surgery.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The project in Jordan is part of the \u00a3945,000 (\u20ac1.1 million) emergency healthcare programme reaching out to Jordanians and Syrian refugees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Working with Palestine Children\u2019s Relief Fund (PCRF) Islamic Relief has provided specialist surgical interventions for 13 children, from three months to 10 years old, with a cleft lip or cleft palate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fatem, the mother of the youngest child, said: \u201cAhmad was born with a unilateral cleft lip and a bilateral cleft palate. My first question to his dad was, \u2018How bad is it?\u2019 His response was, \u2018You will see\u2019 and he had a very sad face which frightened me. I was so scared.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.islamic-relief.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Ahmad-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.islamic-relief.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Ahmad-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"ahmad-2\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cFinally I saw my baby and he was the most beautiful perfect little baby I had ever seen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cHis screaming was like music to my ears and I couldn\u2019t wait to get back to our room just to hold him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThe first few weeks of his life were full of chaos. It was nothing but doctor\u2019s appointments, trying to figure out the best method to feed him, cleaning him and trying to minimize any chance of infection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cI made it work regardless of the challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cI am also alone in my struggle because his dad decided to file for divorce. He blamed the genetics on my side of the family for causing Ahmad\u2019s cleft lip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cAhmad is now three months old. The hardest part of this whole situation is that my baby will undergo several surgeries to correct his cleft lip and require years of speech therapy and surgical revisions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cAhmad may never look like other kids, but to me he has always been perfect and he always will be.\u201d<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A healthcare programme has provided under-10s with life-changing cleft palate surgery.
