{"id":1403,"date":"2016-12-02T04:54:40","date_gmt":"2016-12-01T20:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/islamic-relief.org.my\/sandbox_www\/?p=1403"},"modified":"2017-05-11T14:43:16","modified_gmt":"2017-05-11T06:43:16","slug":"kashmir-emergency-response-for-1500-displaced-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/islamic-relief.org.my\/sandbox_www\/kashmir-emergency-response-for-1500-displaced-families\/","title":{"rendered":"Kashmir emergency response for 1,500 displaced families"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<strong>Increased tensions on the Pakistani-Indian border have caused 11,000 families to flee.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the last two days Islamic Relief has delivered 300 food packs to feed 1,500 people who have fled their homes in the Upper Neelum Valley.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s believed thousands of families living along the border line have left their homes behind and moved towards nearby towns.<\/p>\n<p>Some are staying with family members, while others are seeking shelter in government-allocated buildings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.islamic-relief.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_2219-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.islamic-relief.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_2219-3-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"img_2219\" width=\"135\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sakina, a widow and mother-of-five (pictured right), is taking shelter in a mosque with her children after their home was destroyed by shelling.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cI am really worried about the safety of my family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have moved from our home to a nearby mosque where we hope we will be safe if there is another intense attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I have no income, I have always needed the help of friends and family for our survival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut with the current situation our circumstances have worsened and now I am reaching out to neighbours and relatives for just the basic daily meals for me and my family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the State Disaster Management Authority, Sakina\u2019s is among 10,917 families to have been displaced in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.<\/p>\n<p>So far, 38 people have been reported dead, with more than 110 injured, including women and children.<\/p>\n<p>Displaced people are in need of urgent food and clothes, and if the situation deteriorates they may also need shelter.<\/p>\n<p>Islamic Relief is focusing on women and children in Neelum, Kotli, Bhimber and other areas, who are particularly vulnerable as winter draws in.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Increased tensions on the Pakistani-Indian border have caused 11,000 families to flee.
