{"id":1400,"date":"2016-12-21T04:57:53","date_gmt":"2016-12-20T20:57:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/islamic-relief.org.my\/sandbox_www\/?p=1400"},"modified":"2017-05-11T14:30:42","modified_gmt":"2017-05-11T06:30:42","slug":"clothes-factory-helps-women-to-lift-themselves-out-of-poverty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/islamic-relief.org.my\/sandbox_www\/clothes-factory-helps-women-to-lift-themselves-out-of-poverty\/","title":{"rendered":"Clothes factory helps women to lift themselves out of poverty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<strong>Widows in rural Kosova are being supported to set up their own sewing businesses.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Islamic Relief is reaching out to the most disadvantaged group of widows in Kosova, supplying sewing machines and tailoring training.<\/p>\n<p>In the rural areas of Drenas and Pristina unemployment is one of the biggest issues facing communities, and for women raising families alone the situation is particularly challenging.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.islamic-relief.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Aferdita-right.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.islamic-relief.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Aferdita-right-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"aferdita-right\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After rolling out training for 32 widows, Islamic Relief has employed seven women at a mini clothes factory, supplying sewing machines to 10 more, allowing them to work from home.<\/p>\n<p>After Aferdita (pictured right) lost her husband she was unable to find work and struggled to support her family.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cI never thought I would find a job in my life, or have the skills to go out and earn my own money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was very eager to learn new skills but my life took me in other directions and I never got the chance, so this was great for me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a high attention to detail and learning how to produce different types of clothing required a lot of devotion and care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs head of the household \u2013 and also a mother \u2013 I feel empowered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Future proposals include adding a shop to the factory where the women will be able to sell their goods.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Find out more about our work in Kosova <a href=\"http:\/\/www.islamic-relief.org\/category\/where-we-work\/kosova\/\">here<\/a>. <\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Widows in rural Kosova are being supported to set up their own sewing businesses.
