Kenya Drought 2021_IR Digital (6)

Photos capturing the impact of the drought in Kenya – highlighting Shimbirey village, Balambala Sub-County, Garissa County. The village is still accessing water from the borehole constructed by Islamic Relief.

However, there is great demand for water by the thousands of animals and wildlife visiting the water point. To avoid wildlife conflict, the community has dug a small area to water the warthogs during the day, and giraffes at night.

The village has experienced a huge loss of animals with one man informing us that he lost 50 goats to this current drought. The pastoralists are currently having to buy food for both livestock and human use.

They request urgent support with livestock feed, freshwater for drinking and food for the most vulnerable in the community.
