A damaged house in village of Mian Kale, Union Council Pir Abad, District Shangla, in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan. Islamic Relief Emergency Response Team is on ground carrying out an assessment of needs and to initiate an immediate response in Shangla and Chitral districts.
Shifa ul Mulk, 28, a father of five children, is in photo with IR Staff. He is a labourer at a coalmine in Quetta, Balochistan, in Pakistan, which is about 900km away. “When the earthquake hit, I was on my way to work in Quetta, in Balochistan. I heard that my house had been destroyed so went back to the village to find out if my family was safe. Thankfully, they are all okay, because they were out of the house, working in the fields.” He and his family have now moved into his neighbour’s home as they don’t have any other place to live.
Total population of Peeabad village is 4,000 households. 300 families have completely lost their houses. 500 houses are partially damaged. Three deaths are reported in the village and eight are injured. A large number of livestock died due to rubble fall. Water supply schemes are also damaged in the village. Immediate needs are tent, warm, clothing and food.
