The crisis in Syria is entering its 9th year. And during that time the Syrian people suffer loss, fear and hunger. However, to what extent are there signs of recovery?
Islamic Relief Malaysia has launched Libya Emergency Appeal campaign with initial target RM200,000, due to catastrophic floods sweep Libya.
Islamic Relief is appealing everyone for support to help those affected people in Derna, Libya.
The death toll in Libya’s coastal city of Derna has soared to 11,300, and 10,100 people are still missing in the Mediterranean city.
More than 30,000 people have been displaced.
The head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies delegation in Libya, Tamer Ramadan, has warned that, “the death toll is huge”.
According to our staff on the ground, the smell of death and bodies is everywhere.
The powerful floods, which came after Storm Daniel destroyed two dams in the region have swept away entire neighbourhoods and destroyed homes, bridges and key roads.
Flooding hits Derna like a ‘tsunami’
Some communities are completely cut off and inaccessible.
Benghazi, Soussa and Al-Marj cities are also affected by the flooding. Across the area, hundreds of thousands of people are affected and many have lost their homes.
Currently, Islamic Relief is working with local partners (Red Crescent) on the ground and also coordinate with authorities which area to cover based on needs.
We already delivered foods, blankets, mattresses and hot meals in Derna.
