Refugee is a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. The amount of refugee in Malaysia has increased drastically in five years back. Most of them are Rohingyas whom fled the genocide in Myanmar. There are also other refugees from other countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Syria. All of them are the affected people from constant war(s) in their country and some of them are here to seek asylum. According to UNHCR reports, Malaysia has been home to more than 100,000 refugees from all over the world.

Intellectual Skills & Excellence (ISE) project is an Alternative Learning Centre (ALC) by IRM to provide education for refugees particularly to Rohingyas. Islamic Relief Malaysia has taken a big step by initiating an Alternative Learning Centre for refugees, particularly Rohingyas in Taman Kajang Utama, namely Intellectual Skills & Excellence (ISE).

OBJECTIVE

  • To uplift the social standing of the Rohingya that are disable and undocumented and to train their children to be the future leader of the community, in other words to give them their voice so that they could voice their opinion and dreams.
  • To ensure that every Rohingya children have the same chance at getting basic education for them to read, write and count and could communicate with us is at least a dream came true.
