Many people dream of the beauty of white, soft and fluffy snow, but yet there are those who are suffering from the cold harsh winter.
Cheer to School
Cheer to School Through Box of Kindness 2020 campaign is targeting RM200,000 that will help 700 students from B40 families and below, urban poor students, orphans, disabled and indigenous people in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah & Sarawak to get school needs such as school uniform, school bag, shoes, stationery, extra exercise books and also help them to pay school fees.
This project is targeted to encourage children to be more excited about learning and reducing the burden of parents in providing their children’s school needs.
According to a new study done by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) shows, low income families in cities and urban poor especially female headed household or single mothers, were forced to cut back spending on their children by as much as 84 per cent.
Currently, if they are facing problems to provide online learning equipment, how about other school necessities as a preparation to come back to school next year. In most rural and urban poor areas, they are also struggling to pay school fees and some cannot afford it at all.
Did You Know?
Based on our previous experience, this kind of project has given a big impact not only on the students but also on the parents, teachers, schools, and volunteers which help during the implementation programs.
This program also aligned with at least 4 goals in Social Development Goals (SDG) listed by United Nations such as SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17: Partnership for the goals.
Previously, this program implements by using a shopping concept whereby we bring the students to supermarkets to self-select their needs based on the approved items. However, with the current COVID-19 situation, we are taking extra precaution by initiating another concept which is to buy the school assistance first before distributing to the students at the school and prioritizes the needs of the students by consulting with their teachers.
With the current pandemic situation, we are also distributed hygiene kit consist of face mask, hand wash, and sanitizer to the school involved to cope with the post MCO period. These items might be used by the school to help them creating environments that are suitable for the new norms to reduce the threat of pandemic Covid-19.
